As you likely deduced from this post’s headline, August Burns Red have released a cover of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!,” which has apparently been the track they vamp just before taking the stage.

Says lead guitarist JB Brubaker of the cover:

“After years of playing ‘Chop Suey!’ over the PA system right before we took the stage at our shows, we decided to take a crack at the song ourselves. This is truly one of the most legendary rock/metal songs of all time and it was so much fun to cover. I’m especially proud of our singer Jake [Luhrs] and our bassist Dustin [Davidson]. We haven’t done much clean singing in our music and this song showcases our vocalists in a whole new way.”

You can check out the cover below. My favorite bits are those where they’ve made at least semi-substantial changes to the original to make the song their own… honestly, I wish they’d done even more of that.

You can check out August Burns Red’s System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!” via the below visualizer, which has a container of take out Chinese food (because chop suey is Chinese) sitting in the middle of a road (because I don’t know why, someone feel free to explain it to me in the comments section).

This is ABR’s second cover recording in the past month, after their take on Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas.” You can listen to that here.
