Ozzy’s Daughter, Aimée Osbourne, Discusses Opting Out of Osbournes TV Show

0

Aimée Osbourne, the eldest daughter of Ozzy and Sharon, has been out in the world lately promoting her musical project, Aro (prounounced “arrow”). Interviewers, naturally, are inclined to ask about her family in addition to her music, whatwith the reputation they earned beyond the metal world on the early ’00s reality show The Osbournes (in which she did not participate). It’s been interesting hearing her take on that even if she more or less says the same thing every time (“it wasn’t for me,” paraphrasing).

Aimée’s music, by the way, is quite good: last year she unveiled two standalone singles, the moderately heavy “Shared Something with the Night” and the more pensive, electronic-based “House of Lies.”

In a new chat with the The Oakland Press, Aimée again revisited her decision not to partake in one of the most famous (or infamous?) reality TV shows of all time. When asked if she had any regrets, she answered:

“No. It wasn’t even something I ever contemplated. I never saw it as an option, so it didn’t feel like a hard decision. I knew [the show] was never something that would have made me happy and would have benefitted me long-term. The show was real; There was no script, and I think they got some messages out there that were important, and people got to see their gentle charm and quirkiness. I think after that you saw reality TV take this perverted twist, and a lot of it is so bogus and not reality.”

Asked what it was like later seeing the show as an observer, she said:

“It wasn’t that shocking or surprising ’cause I grew up with it, with a very well-known father. So it wasn’t unfamiliar. What was pretty surprising was how successful it became, overnight. I don’t think any of us were anticipating anything at that level. There’s nothing that could prepare you for that kind of exposure. It was interesting, to say the least.”

Back in October of last year, she went into a bit more detail about her decision to opt out, explaining:

“In regards to why I didn’t didn’t really want to do the whole spotlight thing, I always from a very young age knew what I wanted to do and knew what I was really drawn to. And it just wasn’t in alignment with the flipside of what can come with coming from a well-known family name like that. And I really more than anything wanted to be respected and taken seriously in the music world. And I kind of felt that maybe in a lot of ways it was making my life much harder, but I really wanted to feel like I had earned that and done that myself without, I guess in a way, taking the easy way. And also I had very specific standards and boundaries and morals when it comes to my personal life, because I’ve seen firsthand what letting those slip can do to your day-to-day life and your family and your children and all of those kinds of things. And that’s just not something that I was willing to set myself up for.”

Aimée’s mom, Sharon — also Ozzy’s longtime manager — explained previously on her current TV show, The Talk, that she understood why her eldest daughter didn’t take part in the show:

“It was chaos. We had about 30 crew, 24 hours a day. And the house wasn’t a home anymore; it was a studio. So, I get why she didn’t like it. But would I have done it differently? I didn’t know what I was doing then. So, I wouldn’t have done anything differently, because I had an unbelievable time doing it — great experiences. And it was just something in my life that I don’t regret and I’m glad I did. I was just sorry that Aimée didn’t come on the journey with us.

“With Aimée, she doesn’t wanna be a celeb. She just wants to do her music and do her creative thing, and feel good about it. That’s it.”

All that aside, do give Aimée’s material a listen. We’ll leave it below for you.
