August Burns Red Debut New Version of “Extinct by Instinct”

August Burns Red have released a new song every month since November (a cover of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas,” a cover of System of a Down’s “Chop Suey!”, and “Standing in the Storm“), and they’re not gonna stop now, damn it!

Or, uh… they’re kinda-sorta not gonna stop now, damn it! Their latest offering is “Extinct by Instinct – Reprise,” a “reimagined” version of a song from last year’s Guardians.

Whereas the original was an all-out metalcore banger, “Reprise” mellows shit out and gives the whole thing a kinda Middle Eastern flavor. It’s not entirely acoustic — the lead guitar is still electric — but it is entirely chill. And the original didn’t have any clean vocals, so this version is entirely instrumental.

It’s quite good, and worth a listen even if you’re not traditionally an ABR fan.

And if you are an ABR fan, and you often find yourself surrounded by non-metal types, you can add this to your “compromise tracks” playlist of music both you and the normies find acceptable.

Listen to both versions of the song below. Guardians is out now on Fearless Records. Get it here.
