What would ZZ Top sound like if someone woke up Billy Gibbons before he started singing?

I imagine it would sound a lot like “In Stride,” the new solo single from Alter Bridge/Slash Featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators singer Myles Kennedy. The boogie rhythms and slide guitar meld with Plantian vocals to create something like the hard rock equivalent of comfort food.

Which, based on Kennedy’s statement about the track, seems like it was kinda the point:

“Chill out. That pretty much sums it up. The lyric paints a picture of a survivalist preparing for an impending zombie apocalypse. It was inspired by the first wave of lockdowns as everyone was buying vast amounts of toilet paper and supplies. I started to ask myself if it might be wise to try and gain some perspective and not overreact… keep calm and carry on.”

“In Stride” is the first single from Kennedy’s just-announced sophomore solo effort, The Ides of March, which was written and recorded during the pandemic. Check out the song via the below music video, which was created by Stefano Bertelli.

The Ides of March will be released on May 14 via Napalm Records. The album reunites Kennedy with drummer Zia Uddin, bassist/manager Tim Tournier, and producer Michael “Elvis” Baskette. Pre-order it here.
