Mike Patton Sings Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Theme Song for Arcade Game Reboot

0

Ask anyone over the age of 30 which of the many Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games is the all-time best, and there should be absolutely no debate: the original arcade version, which debuted in 1989, and was ported to the NES in 1990 under the title Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game. The side-scrolling classic had excellent responsiveness and just the right amount of difficulty, and it sucked up HOURS of the youth’s time! This youth, anyway.

Now a brand new entry in the series harks back to that era: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge, inspired by the classic arcade beat-em-up action, is coming to PC and consoles later this year. And it reimagines the gameplay of the classic franchise entries in all their retro, pixelated glory.

What’s more, it’s got a direct tie-in to metal: Mike Patton, of Faith No More, Mr. Bungle, Tomahawk, etc. fame, has lent his vocals to the theme song in a trailer for the game, released today.

Patton, a lifelong TMNT fan, offered of the collaboration:

“Working on TMNT was pure pleasure. I channeled my inner ninja spirit to deliver a track worthy of my half-shell brothers! it was an honor to serve them…and finally I made some music my nieces can enjoy!”

According to press copy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge reunites Leonardo, Raphael, Michelangelo, and Donatello to kick shell in a beautifully realized pixel art world invoking the turtles’ classic 1987 design. Armed with shell-shocking new abilities, the gang are in for an exhilarating, Foot Clan-stomping romp leading them through a breathless tour of iconic TMNT locations and the bustling boroughs of New York City.

You can watch the trailer below, featuring Patton’s vocals, and some gameplay clips towards the end. A release date for the game hasn’t yet been announced.
