Video: Parrot Belts Out “Stairway to Heaven”

Playing “Stairway to Heaven” in a guitar store is as taboo as it gets. Begin strumming those iconic chords and at best you’ll elicit eye rolls from the staff, at worst a guiding hand out the door. I’ve seen it happen!

Does the same rule apply to birds? A parrot named Tico has gone viral for his uncanny ability to sing along to the rock jams of yesteryear, and so far the internet is eating it up. The 18-year-old Tico, “singing” along as his owner and friend, Frank Maglio Jr., strums the guitar, has so far tackled The Beatles’ “Here Comes the Sun,” Third Eye Blind’s “Semi-Charmed Life” and a host of others in addition to the Led Zeppelin classic in this article’s headline.

Tico, a double-yellow headed Amazon, started howling along to Frank’s casual guitar playing during last year’s lockdown. Frank’s wife, Gina, rushed to grab her phone to record what was happening, began uploading videos to YouTube, and the rest is history.

Watch “Stairway to Heaven” below and don’t boot Tico from your proverbial guitar store… he’s just a parrot, he knows not what he does!
