We’re just about a month away from the release of the new Carcass album, Torn Arteries! If you’re like me, and you actually get more impatient the closer you get to the thing you want, you’ll be thrilled to know that the band has released a new single, “Dance of Ixtab (Psychopomp & Circumstance March No. 1 in B).”

You’ll also be thrilled to know — although by no means surprised — that the song is awesome. It feels like it could have come out of the Heartwork sessions. Just, like, an instant Carcass classic. I don’t know how else to put it.

Says bassist/vocalist Jeff Walker of the track in a characteristically upbeat statement:

“The song is a foot stomping festival anthem that will go unheard in an empty, vacuous, post-COVID world ‘stadium,’ where used Lateral Flow Tests blow around as litter in the breeze.”

You can listen to the track below. I’m told that Rolling Stone subscribers also have access to an animated music video.

Torn Arteries is out September 17.
