Avatar Release Two New Songs

It’s a big day for Sweden’s Avatar. Tonight, they begin a U.S. trek in Albany (with Magic Sword and Tallah), which will make them one of the first European metal bands to tour the United States since the pandemic began.

To celebrate that occasion, the band has announced that they’rerolling the dice on cutting out the middle men: After seven years and four albums, they’ve parted ways with eOne in favor of launching their own imprint, Black Waltz Records, which will be distributed by Thirty Tigers.

And to celebrate that occasion, the band has released new songs, “Going Hunting” and “Barren Cloth Mother.” Speaking as someone who generally doesn’t like Avatar, I think both songs are pretty decent. “Going Hunting” is basically like a heavy showtune — I got serious Avenged Sevenfold/”A Little Piece of Heaven” vibes — while “Barren Cloth Mother” is straightforward European melodeath. I suspect fans will dig both tracks.

You can check ’em out below… and even if you don’t like Avatar, I recommend watching the Johan Carlén-directed music video for “Going Hunting,” which has some seriously siqq animation.
