Be’lakor Drop New Melo-Death-Doom Banger, “Foothold”

0

Who’s in the mood for some somber, melancholic melo-death-doom? The answer should always be “me me me!” whoever you are, but let me tell you, it’s cloudy and chilly here in Upstate New York, one of the first such days this fall, and Be’lakor’s new single, “Foothold,” hits the spot. I put my Opeth hoodie on last night for the first time, bracing for the long winter ahead, and this is my soundtrack. I’m sad about it. But at least I have some appropriate tunes to get me through it.

For those unfamiliar with the phenomenal Australian outfit, whose praises we’ve sung here at MetalSucks for years and years, here are some lazy comparisons to Be’lakor to inspire your click on the player below: Insomnium, Omnium Gatherum, Swallow the Sun, Daylight Dies, early Agalloch, etc. Be’lakor have their own singular identity, of course, but if you like those bands, generally speaking, you’ll probably dig Be’lakor too.

Steve Merry (piano/synths) offers of the band’s forthcoming album, Coherence:

“We’re excited to share this album after five years of quite intense work on it. It’s pushed us in many ways. ‘Coherence’ has two of our longest ever songs; it has some really substantial instrumental tracks; it’s heavy and progressive in places, but still full of the melody that drives our work. The album’s lyrics also explore quite different ideas to those of our earlier albums. We look forward to working with Napalm Records on this release and sharing this music with our fans!”

Coherence comes out on October 29 via Napalm Records; pre-order here.
