Watch Wolfgang Van Halen Perform “Paradise City” With Guns N’ Roses

Remember circa 2000, when people used to joke/fantasize about a new collaboration between Axl Rose and Eddie Van Halen? At that point, Rose was Slashless, and Van Halen had not yet reunited with David Lee Roth (or Sammy Hagar, for that matter). Bummer that never actually happened. I don’t know if it would have been good or not, but I suspect it would have, at the very least, raked in a fuckton of cash.

This is the closest we’re ever gonna get to seeing that dream realized.

This past Saturday, October 2, Eddie’s son, one-time Van Halen bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, joined Guns N’ Roses on stage at the Hard Rock Live Arena in Hollywood, Florida for a rendition of their traditional set-closer, “Paradise City.”

Wolfgang’s new project, Mammoth WVH, have been providing support for GN’R on this most recent tour, but this is the first time the headliners have invited him out on stage.

Rose took a moment to acknowledge the semi-historical nature of the event when introducing the younger Van Halen to the crowd:

“Wolfgang Van Halen! Do you know how cool it is to say that? That’s fucking cool. You don’t understand. We’re talking LEGACY.”

Wolfgang himself later shared his own excitement regarding the performance via a pair of social media posts.

You can check those out below, along with fan-filmed footage of the team-up itself.

Mammoth WVH’s eponymous debut album was released earlier this year.

Guns N’ Roses, meanwhile, released two new songs, “ABSUЯD” and “Hard Skool,” this summer. Both are tracks originally written for Chinese Democracy that have since been reworked to better suit returning members Slash and Duff McKagan. It’s the first time the band has released new material with Slash and McKagan since 1991.

An EP, also called Hard Skool, is set for release next year.
