France’s Dropdead Chaos have released a new cover of Slipknot’s “Surfacing” as tribute to that band’s late former drummer, Joey Jordison.

The track includes contributions from Sean “Sean Z.” Zatorsky (ex-Chimaira, Dååth, etc.), who was in the band Sinsaenum with Jordison.

Dropdead Chaos explain:

“In 2018 our producer Hk from the Vamacara Studio was hired by the band Sinsaenum to record the mighty Joey Jordison. Hk is the last producer who worked with Joey. Here what’s Hk says about Joey “I met a very humble and gentle man. Absolutely passionned by the music in general. The first time I heard about Joey Jordison was when I listened to Surfacing. I was totally blown away by his ferocious drumming. Many years later I was in the studio with him. Life can be unpretictable. Thx for everything you’ve done with your bands. And thx for your friendship. RIP Joey” We decided to team up with Hk to pay tribute to Joey Jordison who is a massive influence for us. We also asked to Sean Z (Sinsaenum, Daath, ex-Chimaira) to join us. Thx man you absolutely nailed it ! This tribute means a lot to us for many reasons. The song was recorded remotly and fully mixed and mastered by Hk. RIP Joey. You’ll be never forgotten.”

You can check out the cover at the bottom of this post.

Jordison, who co-founded Slipknot in 1995 and played drums in the band through 2013, died on July 26. He was only 46 years old. No cause of death has been publicly revealed.

In August, the surviving members of Sinsaenum released a statement in which they said that “Joey also had his demons, and nothing hurts more than knowing that we did everything in our power to help and couldn’t get through to him.”

Jordison said in 2016 that he was suffering from a rare neurological disorder that made it difficult for him to play drums, claiming the band fired him as a result of it. He stated in 2017 that “I would never have quit Slipknot, ever.” In a 2014 interview, frontman Corey Taylor declined to elaborate on why Jordison was let go from the band, but said “it was one of the hardest decisions we ever made.”
