Mike Portnoy’s Son Max Plays Drums in Code Orange Now

0

Hey so remember when Tallah got booted from the Avatar tour because of a Covid-19 outbreak within the band a couple weeks back? It’s weird how when that happened no one was like “Max Portnoy is not even touring with Tallah on this run!” seeing as the presence of Mike Portnoy’s son in Tallah is the single most interesting thing about that band.

Then remember when Slipknot launched their tour with Killswitch Engage, Fever 333 and Code Orange — which has been going for nearly three weeks now!! — and no one was like “gee, I wonder who that new Code Orange drummer is?” given that it’s clearly not Jami Morgan (who drummed from 2012-2020 but then stepped up to be the frontman) or Ethan Young (who filled in for Morgan after he vacated the throne)?

The internet failed this time. Reddit failed, Twitter failed, MetalSucks failed, everyone failed. We needed Max’s own social post to learn of it. But, wouldn’t ya know it, Code Orange have a new drummer, and it’s Max, son of legendary ex-Dream Theater, ex-Avenged Sevenfold, Sons of Apollo, Winery Dogs, etc. drummer Mike.

We aren’t sure if he’ll become a permanent member, but he’s at least the guy on this tour. Don’t worry, Tallah fans, he’s not leaving the band.

You can check out Max’s announcement post and some footage of him performing with Code Orange below. And here are the remaining dates of the tour on which you can catch him playing:
