Here’s How “Enter Sandman” Would Sound If It Had Been Written by Slipknot

Whenever someone wants to talk about how metal bands aren’t topping charts anymore, they use Metallica as the benchmark. Where’s the next Metallica? these people whine, as though being rich and famous is the only benchmark for musical success. But at this point, one could argue that Slipknot have done just as much as Metallica, and one wonders if they’ll be bigger than that band in another twenty years. Now, one YouTuber has decided to experiment with the hitmaker-on-hitmaker concept by recording a version of Metallica’s classic “Enter Sandman” as though it were written by Slipknot.

Before we start, fair warning: though YouTube guitarist Pete Cottrell redoes the instrumentals of “Enter Sandman” in the style of Slipknot, he doesn’t do the vocals. So unfortunately, there’s no Corey Taylor yelling, “And of things that will bi-yeet!” That said, Pete’s instrumental replacements are pretty spot-on, right down to the siren noises and DJ scratches he works in. While we’re not sure it full expresses the sheer madness that Slipknot would’ve given this track, we appreciate hearing the “Enter Sandman” bridge via Mick Thompson’s guitar style.
