Author & Punisher Sound Like a Sexy, Pissed-Off ’90s Modem on “Blacksmith”

0

Back in December, industrial noise act Author & Punisher announced their new album Krüller, which will greatly disappoint this writer if it isn’t about eggy braided donuts. The band also released the first track from the record, “Drone Carrying Dread,” and followed it up last month with another single, “Maiden Star.” Now, Author & Punisher have dropped a new single, “Blacksmith,” that features producer and performer Vytear, and if you ever picked up the phone while your sister was on AOL in 1996, you have an idea of what you’re in for.

Here’s what Author & Punisher’s Travis Shone says of the track:

“’Blacksmith’ is a track that I co-wrote with the Krüller producer Jason Begin (Vytear). This one is a bit of an adventure where we go from my slow bending drones and morph into Jason’s jungle and breaks with the same halftime bassline and vocals tying it together. Lyrically, this is an ode to Black women-led movements who have been fearlessly leading the way against oppression in this country for a long time.”
