Video: Tool Play “Undertow” Live for the First Time In 20 Years

0

Progressive metallers Tool are currently smack-dab in the middle of their U.S. tour, and have so far made it a memorable one. From stopping the show to help a fan in distress to playing Jenga mid-drum solo, the band have made this trek one for the ages. Now, they’ve added another memorable moment to the tour by performing their 1993 classic “Undertow” for the first time in 20 years.

As you’ll see in the video below via Metal Hammer, Tool apparently busted the song out at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit this past Thursday, March 3rd. The crowd fucking loved it, and even this author, who thinks Tool is fine but is by no means a diehard, has to admit that the backdrop of the slowly-throbbing Undertow ribcage is very awesome (is that a ribcage? Let me know if it’s some symbol or totem I don’t know about).

Apparently, the last time the band performed the song was April 29, 2002. It also marks a departure from their recent setlists, which have leaned heavily on 2019’s Fear Inoculum, though the band have also played their first massive single “Sober at several shows.
