Ghost’s IMPERA Debuts at #2 on Billboard Top 200, Has the Largest Sales Week of Any 2022 Release

0

Only earlier today, we wrote about how Ghost‘s IMPERA was crushing charts around the world. Now, Billboard have revealed the first-week numbers, and the album has debuted at #2 — and has officially had the largest sales week of any album this year.

Here’s what Billboard had to say of Ghost’s IMPERA, which dropped Friday, March 11th:

The set also earns the group its biggest week both in terms of equivalent album units earned (70,000) and traditional album sales (62,500). The set additionally logs the largest sales week of any album in 2022, bolstered by its availability across multiple vinyl LP variants, as well as CD, cassette and digital download.

Of Impera’s 70,000 equivalent album units earned, album sales comprise 62,500; SEA units comprise 7,000 (equaling 9.11 million on-demand official streams of the set’s songs) and TEA units comprise 500. The band’s previous biggest week, both in units earned and album sales, was the opening frame of Prequelle (66,000 units, of which 61,500 were album sales).

Congrats to the boys in buckled black — #2 ain’t a bad place to be, and setting a sales record for a single album this year is a pretty damn rad.

For the record, here are some of Ghost’s other chart standings as of today:

  • Germany: #1 (the band’s highest-ever position in Germany)
  • Sweden: #1
  • U.K.: #2 (the band’s highest-ever position in the UK)
  • Netherlands: #2 (the band’s highest-ever position in Netherlands)
  • Belgium: #2 (the band’s highest-ever position in Belgium)
  • Norway: #2
  • Australia: #3 (the band’s highest-ever position in Australia)
  • France: #5 (the band’s highest-ever position in France)
  • Ireland: #5 (the band’s highest-ever position in Ireland)
  • Italy: #20 (the band’s highest-ever position in Italy)

Not too shabby.
