Friday night, the rock world was shaken to learn that Taylor Hawkins, drummer for arena-topping rock act Foo Fighters, had died at the age of 50. Now, the band have canceled all of their upcoming tour dates due to the tragedy.

Foo Fighters released the following statement today:

It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins. We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.

With Love,

Foo Fighters

No one is surprised, or can blame the band.

While an official cause of death has not been revealed, initial toxicology reports show that Hawkins had 10 different substances in his system at the time of his death, including THC, opioids, and anti-depressants.

In a statement, the Bogota municipal government said the city’s emergency center received a report of a patient with “chest pain” and sent an ambulance on Friday evening. Paramedics attempted to revive him but there was no response and Hawkins was declared dead at the hotel in northern Bogota, the statement added.

Hawkins’ death was announced late Friday night, around 11pm EST, with the following statement from the Foo Fighters:

The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

Everyone at MetalSucks sends their heart out to Hawkins’ family, friends, fans and collaborators during this difficult time.
