Friday night, the rock world was shaken to learn that Taylor Hawkins, drummer for arena-topping rock act Foo Fighters, had died at the age of 50.  Hawkins died in Bogota, Colombia, where the band were scheduled to play a festival. Now, it’s been revealed that Hawkins’ body has been returned to the U.S.

As reported by Blabbermouth, pictures have been published by the Daily Mail showing the casket containing Hawkins’ earthly remains being loaded into a chartered Boeing 757. The band’s surviving members had already returned to the States.

This comes after yesterday’s announcement that the band would cancel all upcoming live dates in the wake of the tragedy, which was declared via the following public statement:

“It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins. We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together.

While an official cause of death has not been revealed, initial toxicology reports show that Hawkins had 10 different substances in his system at the time of his death, including THC, opioids, and anti-depressants.

In a statement, the Bogota municipal government said the city’s emergency center received a report of a patient with “chest pain” and sent an ambulance on Friday evening. Paramedics attempted to revive him but there was no response and Hawkins was declared dead at the hotel in northern Bogota, the statement added.

Hawkins’ death was announced late Friday night, around 11pm EST, with the following statement from the Foo Fighters:

The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins. His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.

Everyone at MetalSucks sends their heart out to Hawkins’ family, friends, fans and collaborators during this difficult time.
