Disturbed’s David Draiman Voices Support for Roe V. Wade, Says He’s Pro-Choice

Sometimes, it might seem like we only write about musicians we don’t like when they’re saying some dumbass shit or acting the fool. And I’ll be the first to admit, we definitely drag Disturbed‘s David Draiman when he does those things. That said, we’ll also give a nod to a dude when we think his logic’s sound or he”s fighting the good fight — hell, we even recently admitted to not disagreeing with Phil Labonte — so here’s a nod and a cheers to Draiman, who recently came out in support of Roe v. Wade, the court decision that protects a woman’s right to have an abortion in the United States, and one which the Supreme Court quietly decided to overturn last night.

In case you haven’t heard, last night Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito submitted an initial draft majority opinion (via Politico) that would repudiate the 1973 Roe v. Wade court decision, in which a pregnant woman in Texas effectively sued her district attorney Henry Wade, claiming that her state’s abortion laws were unconstitutional. As you’ll read, Alito’s majority opinion claims that Roe harmed state rights and regulations, and was an exercise in “raw judicial power.”

Where does David Draiman come in? Well, the vocalist tweeted the following today:

“The government should not be able to tell anyone what they can and cannot do with their own body. Period. #prochoice #RoeVWade”.

This got Shinedown guitarist Zach Myers frustrated, tweeting that the Supreme Court leak which let the public know that the SCOTUS was trying to overturn Roe v. Wade was all about “chaos and panic.” Draiman responded:

“There would have been chaos and panic whenever this one got out. Leaked or otherwise.”

Later, in response to Myers’ further hemming and hawing, he added:

“Just an observation; This ‘leak’ was exactly what the Democrats needed to galvanize and energize their base. The resulting fervor could prevent the red wave many were predicting in the upcoming elections

“(Reminder; I pledge allegiance to neither side) #prochoice #RoeVWade”.

We think the “neither side” thing is kind of wack, but there you go — dude’s a diehard Joe Rogan defender, so we’re not surprised. Meanwhile, we appreciate that Draiman is supporting a woman’s right to choose, which you’ll be unsurprised to hear that MetalSucks stands for wholeheartedly.
