Shrine (Nuclear Blast)
Simplistic and to the point, Bleed from Within‘s seventh studio album Shrine features all the nostalgia and melodic flair of 2000s metalcore. The Scottish quintet stays true to their melodeath roots, with grandiose breakdowns and symphonic twists throughout the album. Shrine offers us some good ol’ fashioned brutality, just in time for the weekend.
Crobot
Feel This (Mascot)
Working on so many levels to deliver their distinctive groove of heavy rock vibrations, Crobot releases their new album Feel This, filled with everything they’ve hoped to achieve over the past few years: energy, catchy melodic riffs, and an album that carries just as much energy as their live performances. This record is going to be a game-changer for these guys.
GWAR
The New Dark Ages (Pit)
As long as GWAR has existed, they’ve never stopped criticizing society and the people in it. The New Dark Ages; an eclectic group of songs spanning in style and angst punches cultural standards square in the face with a very catchy bevy of tunes. With 15 tracks on this album, strap in and turn it up for a truly epic journey into the underbelly of heavy metal.
Temple Of Void
Summoning The Slayer (Relapse)
Heavy and desolate, Temple Of Void’s new album combines long-standing inspirations with a variety of non-metal directions. Summoning the Slayer, the band’s fourth record, incorporates ’70s rock/singer-songwriter elements into their groaning death-doom, while lyrically, the group forgoes popular horror cliches in favor of a deeper, larger study of the self. We think this will pair best with a healthy dose of existential dread and hopelessness. Enjoy!
Astronoid
Radiant Bloom (3DOT Recordings)
How can one album shimmer so much? The new Astronoid record sounds as sunset-pink as its cover, even when the band swirl off into moments of pure technical ecstasy. The songs act more as soundscapes than hit singles, but hey, if you came for the ethereal beauty, you’re down for the big picture over the minutiae. Fans of traditional metal that’s black and crimson at its core, avoid this like the plague; everyone else, sit back and enjoy the ride.
