Wednesday 13 Announces New Album Horrifier , Shares Exorcist-Themed Video
Horror punks rejoice: Wednesday 13 is back in time for Halloween with his new album, Horrifier. Judging from the first official track on the record, “You’re So Hideous,” Horrifier will deliver plenty of the metallic horror punk sleaze that the former Murderdolls frontman cut his teeth on in the first place.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Wednesday 13 project without plenty of references to popular horror media. “Return to Haddonfield” is a reference to John Carpenter‘s Halloween films and “Christine: Fury In The Night” centers around Stephen King’s horror film of the same first name. The video that accompanies “You’re So Hideous” is a wonderfully-bloody nod to The Exorcist. Regarding the song and video, Wednesday 13 says:
“‘You’re So Hideous’ is such a catchy track and it’s one of the very first ones I wrote for the album. Lyrically, it’s a modern-day Medusa story… Beware the stare into her eyes. The music video was, of course, inspired by the Exorcist film and was a lot of fun recreating that.”
The official PR for the record also notes that album closer “The Other Side” sees Wednesday 13 taking a more heartfelt angle than you’d normally expect from the “Twist My Sister” songwriter. The track is a tribute to the singer’s mother, who passed away suddenly, and former Murderdolls bandmate Joey Jordison, who died last year.
Tribute songs aside, Wednesday 13 says Horrifier isn’t a sad album.
“The last three releases have seen the band explore new ground with heavier songs, drums, and vocals. Coming out of the COVID crisis, I promised I would not release a sad, depressing record. I wanted to make a fun, horror themed rock record that would be reminiscent of the first few Wednesday 13 records. The new album is a fun, fast-paced, thriller!”
Horrifier is out on October 7 via Napalm Records.
