Sh*t That Comes Out Today – October 7, 2022

0

It’s another Friday and that means yet another slate of new releases. This one’s a particularly good one — especially if you think a certain enviro-friendly southerner with dreads is the greatest frontman in heavy metal history…

You can grab most of today’s listed releases over at Gimme Metal’s MetalSucks collection.

Sh*t That Comes Out Today – October 7, 2022

Lamb of God

Omens (Epic)

Omens bolsters the argument that Lamb of God might be the most-consistent band in extreme music. Almost three decades into their career, if you count Burn the Priest (and you should), the Richmond crew are still finding new ways to present their tried-and-true formula. As MetalSucks Bree Halmstad wrote in her review, “In a dystopian world where division and doom reign, Lamb of God’s Omens succeeds.”

Goatwhore

Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven (Metal Blade)

If Lamb of God are the most-consistent band in extreme music, Goatwhore are the most-consistently underrated band in extreme music. The NOLA black/death/thrash unit show veteran swagger—Goatwhore turned 25 this year—on Angels Hung From the Arches of Heaven, which comes five years after their last full-length, Vengeful Ascension. The new record reflects the feelings of isolation and depression the members of the band experienced during the writing process, which makes Angels feel even darker than usual. Best paired with our interview with guitarist Sammy Duet for maximum results.

Queensrÿche

Digital Noise Alliance (Century Media)

This week’s roundup is heavy on the experienced and the graybeards. Queensrÿche reclaim some of their former glory on Digital Noise Alliance, both in terms of songwriting and gear used to record. Singer Todd La Torre steps up to the plate on Alliance, matching the old-school fervor of his bandmates. Give this one a shot, even if you’ve lapsed on previous releases.

Wednesday 13

Horrifier (Napalm Records)

It’s almost Halloween and Wednesday 13 is back with a new treat in the form of Horrifier. References to Stephen King, Halloween and The Exorcist abound, but 13 also gets sentimental on tracks like album closer “The Other Side,” which deals with the passing of his mother and former Murderdolls bandmate Joey Jordison.

Cloud Rat

Threshold (Artoffact)

Threshold, the latest from Michigan trio Cloud Rat, is, at times, the closest thing I can think of to a melodic grind album since Gridlink released Longhena. At other times, Threshold is a raging, aggressive slab of fast music that defies easy convention. Cloud Rat themselves called it their best record, so check it out.
