Lose Your Head with We Are Magonia’s Latest Darksynth Single “Electric Guillotine Pt. 2”
Not all heavy music require stringed instruments. Today, French darksynth group We Are Magonia have dropped their latest single and visualizer, “Electric Guillotine Pt. 2,” off their upcoming studio album Triange Unicode.
The single, which you can hear below, has a ton of distortion with bright synthy melodies floating above the kind of thumping rhythm and heavy chords. According to the band, they rely heavily on vintage synths and “distorted walls of modern detuned synth sounds that almost resemble guitars.” What results, is something that fits right in with the kind of music their countrymen Carpenter Brut or Perturbator would do.
“We tried to synthesize metal music with this song – we probably failed, but we like the result anyway! If you want to listen to something personal and original – and if you like a blend of genres in powerful and intense music – then maybe you will like this…”
Throughout the track’s nearly five minutes, it’s hard not to bob your head and move to the sounds emanating through your speakers or headphones. Much like the metal artists we admire, the sounds created by We Are Magonia’s electric cacophony have a driving quality that’s hard to deny. Honestly, if you listen to this track and don’t think it would fit in at some hedonistic vampire rave just before Blade shows up, I’m not sure we’re listening to the same thing.
Speaking about their upcoming third album, the trio of Fear Collins, Frank Sinistra and Louis De Funeste said they strive to make “electronic music made by metalheads.”
“Usually our music is a mix between what we have been doing and something new we have discovered and that influences us. However, we wanted this album to be a step up. We wanted it more leaning toward the modern electronic music genre, and to be better produced and more efficient.”
