The world lost yet another amazing talent earlier today, as Narareth bassist Pete Agnew took to social media to announce the death of the band’s founding vocalist, Dan McCafferty. He was 76 years old.

“Dan died at 12:40 today.

“This is the saddest announcement I ever had to make. Maryann and the family have lost a wonderful loving husband and father, I have lost my best friend and the world has lost one of the greatest singers who ever lived.

“Too upset to say anything more at this time.”

Founding Nazareth Vocalist Dan McCafferty Passed Away

Having been around since 1968, Nazareth grew from their Scottish upbringing and European fame with their with their 1975 album Hair of the Dog, which featured their hits “Hair of the Dog” and a cover of the ballad “Love Hurts.” McCafferty remained a part of the band from its founding until 2013.

We at MetalSucks can’t imagine losing someone you’ve known for more than half a century and worked with for nearly just as long. We want to offer our condolences to all of McCafferty’s friends, family, and current and former bandmates.
