Gene Hoglan’s in the Studio Working on New Dark Angel

Thrash metal fans, get excited. The classic California thrash band Dark Angel took to social media the other day to share a photo of Gene “The Atomic Clock” Hoglan getting ready to work on some new material.

As you can see in the image/tweet below, Hoglan’s stading in what looks like a recording/rehearsal studio/church holding a pair of drumsticks among some drum boxes. Is it much to go off of? Not really. But when you consider past comments by Michael Gonzalez that the band’s working on new music, or you remember that Hoglan said the new tracks will be “the most aggressive Dark Angel music they can make,” it’s hard not to get excited.

Once released, the still unnamed album will be the band’s first full-length studio offering since 1991’s Time Does Not Heal and the first one since 1989’s Leave Scars that will feature the original Ron Rinehart lineup with Hoglan, Gonzalez, Jim Durkin and Eric Meyer.

Along with the new album currently in the works, Dark Angel’s got a few festival appearances scheduled for later this year, including Graspop, Hellfest, and Metalfest. Additionally, the band will be playing the entirety of Darkness Descends during a special concert on April 14 in Los Angeles.

Considering how Hoglan’s got other projects to work on — including the new Dethklok record — we’re stoked to see him coming back to Dark Angel to be the back bone for what’s sure to be some killer thrash metal with the classic act.
