Be warned, headbangers. If you’re looking for loud, extreme music then you might want to turn away. The track being highlighted here is neither of those things. Yet if you like sorrowful, minimalistic gothic artistry that leads to a little introspection, then Spirit Tomb’s “In Her Heart of Hearts” is just for you.

Spirit Tomb is a solo project by Norwegian artist Leon Kristoffer, who you may or may not recognize if you’re into the Norwegian black metal scene. Formed in 2020, the project blends piano, cello, and vocals to create a soundscape that’s effective in dragging its emotional weight across the floor.

“The realm of Spirit Tomb is where old ghosts are conjured. Flesh and spectral limbs entwine in a dance that ultimately escorts the dead to their final destination in eternal solace.

The Lotus of Dahlia is the first chapter of Spirit Tomb’s ‘Aandegrav Trilogy,’ which will take the listener through a journey of loss, grief and catharsis. It begins with grief.

The Lotus of Dahlia speaks of the open wound of heartache in its most beautiful form — for there is beauty in everything.”

You may recognize Spirit Tomb from our recent article, “12 Reasons Why 2023 Will Be an Excellent Year for Black Metal.” The next two parts of the ‘Aandegrav Trilogy,” according to Kristoffer, will be the LPs Spiritus Lacrimarum and The Haunted Palace.

“In Her Heart of Hearts” is the first single from Spirit Tomb’s forthcoming two-song EP, The Lotus of Dahlia, which will be released on April 14 via Apollon Records.
