Super Monster Party’s Single “This Is Doom!” is a Love Letter to the Gore-Filled First-Person Shooter

In a world where Mick Gordon’s soundtracks for Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal are considered some of the best/heaviest/most brutal tunes to serve as a backdrop for ripping and tearing demon hordes in Hell, it’s hard to imagine anyone even thinking of tackling the first person shooter in musical form. Yet Super Monster Party, a video game metal band out of South Florida, dropped a single that aims to do just that.

Titled “This Is Doom!,” the song and its accompanying music video deals with the timeless battle between the legions of Hell and one dude with some big fucking guns. In the clip below, even the Angry Video Game Nerd James Rolfe gets involved.

Past works by Super Monster Party include motifs based on Altered Beast, The Legend of Zelda, and other major video game franchises. Apparently, Super Monster Party have a story behind them. Rather than butcher it like Doomguy butchers Imps with a chainsaw, here’s their concept in their own words:

“Super Monster Party provides an immersive experience where you are taken into the world of ‘Permadeath’ where video games are real and you ‘The Hero’ must battle your way to different worlds to become its champion and save this reality from extinction. We want to create a link between our songs and the nostalgia of our favorite video games growing up.”

As we’ve tried to showcase in the past, metalheads are fuckin’ nerds. There’s no use hiding it or pretending it not to be the case, since I’ve seen tons of you fucks repping Marvel, Star Wars, D&D, or some other form of nerd culture. So stop pretending and embrace the nerdiness. It’s more fun that way.
