Khemmis Announce a Limited Edition 7″ Release with a Doomy Cover of “In The Pines”

0

Sometimes you wake up and realize it’s going to be a great fucking day. Such was what happened this morning when I opened up my chat app of choice and realized all my fellow metal friends losing their shit over a surprise drop from Colorado-based doom metal titans Khemmis. And not only were there two tracks to get completely stoked over, but they’re putting out a limited edition 7″ vinyl release titled Where The Cold Wind Blows!

In support of the EP’s surprise release today via Nuclear Blast, Khemmis dropped a cover of the classic American folk song “In The Pines,” which you may immediately recognize as another song, “Where Did You Sleep Last Night?” You know, that Lead Belly song Nirvana covered for their Unplugged album that really dates back to the 1800s.

Rather than keep it close to the original source material, Khemmis does what Khemmis does and adds a level of gravitas and bombast that really adds to the dark and gloomy source material. Naturally.

In addition to that cover, the band is finally releasing the song “Sigil” to a wider audience with this surprise drop. According to the band, the song was only available through the Decibel Magazine Flexi Series, though obviously that’s no longer the case. Unlike “In The Pines,” this track surges forward with energetic intent. Well, as energetically as it can for a doom band.

Both of the tracks are available on the band’s Bandcamp page, as well as all major streaming platforms. You can pick up your copy of the 7″ EP today.

The band are also currently on a headlining tour. Be sure to catch them at any of the dates listed below the two songs.

Fuck yeah, new Khemmis!
