Drowning Pool Sampled in a Rap Track by Shaq

0

Metal artists getting sampled in rap music isn’t anything new. After all, we’ve already gotten the gold that was Ozzy’s reaction to Crazy Train being used in a Trick Daddy track. Yet it’s somewhat noteworthy when a major NBA star like Shaquille O’Neal takes a 2000s classic like Drowning Pool’s “Bodies” and uses it as the backbone of his latest song, the hilariously named “Thotties Hit The Floor.”

Whatever you think that would sound like, you’re probably wrong. Rather than rely on the guitars, drums, or bass of the track, Shaq isolated the late Dave Williams’ vocals and used them in the background. What you get is this weird mix of fat bass and Williams’ delivery hanging over each and every line uttered by the insanely massive ex-basketball star.

Though he’s had past experience in the “rap game” with four albums spanning from 1993 to 1998, O’Neal is obviously most famously known for his time as an elite NBA player, as well as his insane height at 7’1″. In the years since his retirement, Shaq’s been a professional NBA commentator and overall entertainer, with credits in various shows throughout the years.

Most recently, Shaq’s been hitting the stage as DJ Diesel. From what Shaq posted along with this Drowning Pool-laced song, it sounds like that DJ life led to some new material.

“Never would i have thought DJing would get me here!! But when it’s your time, it’s YOUR TIME. Im beyond grateful Thotties Hit The Floor (MONSTER MASHUP) ft. Me, Lex Bratcher, Scar Lip.”

It’s important to note that this isn’t even the first time “Bodies” has been sampled in a other works. In fact, WhoSampled says the song’s been used 33 other times.
