Ex-Metallica Bassist Says Dave Mustaine Left Metallica ‘In the Dust’ on No Life Til’ Leather Demo

0

There was a time back in the early 80s when Metallica weren’t a household name like they are now. In fact, there was a time they were a small band, covering new wave of British heavy metal tunes and writing/playing their own music. Eventually, they ended up putting out a demo called No Life Til’ Leather in 1983 and well, the rest is history.

Over the weekend, the man that played bass on that historic demo, Ron McGovney, took to Twitter to not only share in his nostalgia, but to heap praise on another former member: Dave Mustaine.

In his tweet, he called the demo “the best metal demo ever” before stating that Mustaine “just kills it on this tape,” sharing that he “leaves the rest of us in the dust.”

Naturally, civilized discourse on Twitter is dead, so some people saw his comments as an attack on James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich. McGovney was quick to kill that sentiment, stating that he was merely saying that Mustaine was “just so far ahead of us as musicians at that point.”

Just listening to the demo below, you can tell Mustaine was a man on a mission, looking to kill it on the demo and take over the world as one of the four baddest dudes in metal. Unfortunately for him, his alcohol consumption and aggressive behavior led to his eventual ousting from the band. Things eventually worked out for him, having eventually founded Megadeth and become a force in his own right.

So what do you think? Is McGovney right? Or was Mustaine just yet another guitarist in Metallica’s history? Let us know in the comments below.
