Activision, AEG Presents & Goldenvoice Announce Tony Hawk Pro Skater Festival

Tony Hawk and his video games are like little slice of history that we refuse to let be forgotten. They’re basically a part of the chemical makeup of most millennials, so hearing that the videogame powers that be are remaking Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 was all sorts of delight. To celebrate the remakes, video game publisher Activision is teaming up with Goldenvoice and AEG Presents for THPS Fest.

Who’s set to play the festival, you ask? A few artists who have found (or will find) a home in the Pro Skater games throughout the years. Among them will be hardcore punk legends the Adolescents, San Diego’s pop-punkers Urethane, as well as Lupe Fiasco and Danny Brown.

THPS Fest is set to take place Thursday, May 8 at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. So far, no information has been released about whether or not tickets will be available to the public, but the fest will be livestreamed that day on Twitch starting at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET.

If you’ve been playing the games since the beginning, you might be able to remember where some of these artists stuck the landing. For instance, the Adolescents’ iconic track “Amoeba” was in the original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 from 2001, and will be featured in the Pro Skater 3+4 remake, coming out on July 11. As well, the Dropkick Murphys covered the band’s track “Who Is Who” for the Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland soundtrack in 2005.

Lupe Fiasco’s classic skater song “Kick, Push” was featured in 2006’s Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam. Fiasco, along with and THPS newbie Danny Brown, will have tracks in the new Pro Skater 3+4 as well.

Urethane are making their franchise debut with their song “Dog Years.” The band was founded by professional skateboarder Steve Caballero, who’s been an integral part of the THPS franchise and was at one point a part of the original Bones Brigade band along with Tony Hawk himself.
