Gaahls Wyrd Release Latest Single “And the Now”
Whenever Norwegian black metal artist Gaahl does anything, black metal fans pay attention. His band Gaahls WYRD has its sophomore record coming out next month titled Braiding The Stories and earlier this morning, he dropped the latest single from that release, “And the Now.”
Ever the storyteller, Gaahl’s latest piece of music continues the journey into what he calls the “White Lodge”, which is apparently located “somewhere between dreams and the subconscious.” Unlike previous singles, this one’s significantly more atmospheric and brooding before it builds to a deafening crescendo with the song’s final minute.
This upcoming release will be Gaahls WYRD’s follow up to their 2019 debut album GastiR – Ghosts Invited.Speaking of the album itself, Gaahl compared it to his previous works.
“Musically, it’s unique. It’s not necessarily connected to GastiR and The Humming Mountain. Those albums are connected to very earthly elements, the natural flow of things. This album is another dimension—behind the veil, if you will.
“…Throughout this album, I use a lot of different voices, and I’ve thought a lot about how all these different characters fit [into the music]. So, I wanted the listener to fall into the album, not be distracted, and I think I’ve accomplished that. It’s cinematic.”
Gaahls WYRD will release Braiding The Stories on June 6 via Season of Mist, but you can pre-order and/or pre-save your copy today.
