Slipknot is Nowhere Near Releasing New Music, Says Jim Root: “My Inspiration is Nearly Zero”

0

If you’re waiting around for Slipknot‘s follow up to their 2022 album The End, So Far, you might want to temper your expectations because at least one member wants some (well deserved) time off.

During a recent interview with Guitar Interactive, Slipknot guitarist Jim Root revealed that the band isn’t exactly chomping at the bit to get back into the studio since they’ve been going non-stop since they started their 25th anniversary tour last year.

“Honestly, we’ve been touring so much since Eloy Casagrande joined the band that my inspiration is nearly zero.”

You may recall that Casagrande quit Sepultura and joined Slipknot early last year. That was a huge fucking deal at the time and really set everything in motion for the band as they were gearing up for the 25th anniversary of their breakthrough self-titled album.

Thanks to that anniversary and the revitalized interest following Casagrande’s entrance into the band, Slipknot has been white hot on the road. Playing to huge crowds wherever they end up, it’s been show after show, tour leg after tour leg. That kind of dynamic, Root said, has caused him to fall into a sort of writer’s block or creative rut.

“And there’s a bunch of music that was written during COVID that I’m not interested in. And I think everybody else in the band gets it too, and I think they’re kind of, like, ‘Okay, we need to just kind of, like, maybe sweep all that shit under a rug and start fresh.’

“…I wanna get touring behind us. I wanna have at least a month off just to shut my brain off and sleep and all that kind of stuff. And then when I find myself going out to my little home studio and putting riffs together, then I’ll know it’s time to start.”

Whenever things do finally calm down, maybe we’ll learn about some new Slipknot tunes. Until then, you’re all just gonna have to wait. In the meantime, you can try to catch Slipknot live at any of the shows below.
