Iconic Morrisound Recording Studio Gets Historical Marker
If we’re being honest, history is a huge bitch. We clearly have no respect for it, and we clearly learn nothing from it. BUT, when it’s done right and worthy of praise, we’ll give it. Like Morrisound Recording. The legendary Tampa, Florida-based recording studio has seen and helped many death metal acts make their presence known throughout the years, including bands like Death, Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, and Deicide.
In celebration of that, the studio’s original site has been officially honored with a historical plaque signifying how important and integral the space has been to the metal world. In addition to the marker, Morrisound will also release a special edition t-shirt listing the 20 best-selling death metal albums the studio has produced.
Of the event and their legacy, Morrisound said the following:
“We are pleased to announce that Hillsborough County has awarded Morrisound Recording, Inc. a Historical Marker to honor the contributions that were made to the music industry by Morrisound and its staff, especially in the field of extreme metal production.
“The marker will be placed at the site of our earlier studios on 56th St. in Temple Terrace, the site of some of the most well-known extreme metal recordings during the 1980s and 90s.”
The marker was revealed in a ceremony this past Friday (May 16) by Hillsborough County, Florida, followed by a reception at Seminole Heights’ Magnanimous Brewing, which is near the studio’s new Sulphur Springs location. Some attendees of mention include Jon Oliva (Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra), “Nasty” Ronnie Galletti and David Austin of Nasty Savage, Crimson Glory’s Jeff Lords, and Paul Mazurkiewicz of Cannibal Corpse.
Morrisound joins over 150 other green marker sites maintained by the Hillsborough County Historical Advisory Council, which are meant to celebrate culturally significant places around the region.
