Ex-Guns N’ Roses Manager Says Mötley Crüe’s Music Sucks and They’re Shitty People

0

There was a time when Mötley Crüe wasn’t the overblown laughing stock they are today. At one point they had a dangerous streak to them; the music had an edge to it. Yet throughout all the bombast and excitement, it was always kinda known maybe they weren’t the nicest people to be around — especially if you were an attractive woman.

In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, former Guns N’ Roses manager Alan Niven shared his thoughts on the Crüe and they weren’t very charitable. Having been involved with the distribution and promotion of their 1981 record Too Fast For Love, he admitted that he’s not entirely thrilled that his name is associated with that band’s coming up story.

“[I feel] very ambivalent about the small role I played in the progression of Mötley Crüe because I know who they are. I know what they’ve done to various people. I know how they’ve treated certain numbers of women. And I am not proud of contributing to that.”

We’ve all known for a while that controversy and shitty behavior has been a staple of the Mötley Crüe experience, but I can’t imagine what it was like to have to work with those guys just as they were starting to get rolling. Just read The Dirt and you’ll read all you need to know about their exploits and in-fighting. A quick Google search will show you racist outbursts and regale you of the time Vince Neil drunkenly crashed his car, killing Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas “Razzle” Dingley. The list goes on.

All that’s fine to bring up, but Niven wasn’t quite done with the Crüe. In fact, he had one more criticism that frankly I’m happy someone else brought up: that band just doesn’t have the catalog to justify their shit behavior. In his interview, Niven said the band’s output has been painfully mediocre for a long time now.

“And on top of that, someone needs to turn around and say, ‘It’s a thin catalog that they produced,’ in terms of what they produced as music. There’s not much there and it’s certainly not intellectually or spiritually illuminating in any way, shape or form. They are brutish entertainers, and that’s it.”

Someone find the lie.
