A Bunch of Deftones’ Songs Got Gold and Platinum Certifications from the RIAA

This kind of thing usually goes without saying, but you people really like Deftones. Like, you dig this band so much that you apparently listen to them while you shit and do the horizontal cha-cha. (Though hopfully not at the same time… unless you’re into that sorta thing…)

Yes, for decades this band has had most of you fuckers in an aural headlock and honestly, I get it. The tunes are damn good, having managed over the years to keep fans on their toes with each new release. So when word got out that a laundry list of their songs got certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), it wasn’t shocking.

For those that don’t know, the RIAA bestows certain certifications on songs and albums based on sales data from retail and other markets. For example, Gold certifications come at 500,000 units, Platinum certs come at a million, and so on and so forth.

According to the RIAA, the certifications awarded to Deftones yesterday went as follows:

  • “Change (In The House Of Flies)” (gold, platinum, 2x platinum, 3x platinum, 4x platinum)
  • “Be Quiet And Drive (Far Away)” (gold, platinum, 2x platinum)
  • “My Own Summer (Shove It)” (gold, platinum, 2x platinum)
  • “Passenger” (feat. Maynard James Keenan) (gold, platinum)
  • “Rosemary” (gold, platinum)
  • “Cherry Waves” (gold, platinum)
  • “Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want” (The Smiths cover) (gold)
  • “Hole In The Earth” (gold)
  • “Entombed” (gold)
  • “Minerva” (gold)
  • “Beware” (gold)
  • “Around The Fur” (gold)
  • “Beauty School” (gold)

Yep. None of that surprises me. What’ll be interesting to see in the future if any songs from the band’s forthcoming album that they’ve been teasing will land on that list. We’ll supposedly know by August if they’ll stand to the likes of “Change (In The House Of Flies)” or “My Own Summer (Shove It)”, so we don’t have long to wait at all.
