Tool’s Adam Jones Bent Out of Shape Over Lars Ulrich Impersonator, Calls Him “Disrespectful”

They say imitation is the best form of flattery. But something tells me Tool guitarist Adam Jones either missed that memo or forgot it all together, because he took the time to call out a small content creator that takes the piss out of how Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich plays.

The drummer in question is Tom Chambers, whose Instagram page features him jokingly playing various artists’ music as if Lars Ulrich was actually in the band. It’s honestly kinda funny, since Lars definitely has a certain style about his playing.

And while all that is fine and dandy, what ultimately set Jones off was a recent cover of Tool’s “Vicarious” featuring the guy’s Ulrich impersonation. It’s typical 4/4 easy bullshit playing, but that was enough to draw Jones’ ire.

“Ok I’ll say it… You’re very disrespectful and you should be licking Lars’ boots.”

Now, no where did this guy make the claim that Lars sucking at the drums. As such, Chambers simply responded with an “okay I’m sorry” and moved on.

The interaction gained attention on everyone’s favorite internet platform — Reddit. In the comments, people noted how wild it was that Jones felt compelled to say anything, given how he rarely posts or comments on Instagram. One user said:

“If anyone follows Adam on IG you know the guy basically almost never comments on any posts. He makes posts of guitars/his family/Tool stuff but rarely comments. So the fact he decided to stick up for Lars says something. Also the Tool guys and Metallica have known each other for ages. Kirk also guested on guitar at a few Tool shows years ago.”

I’m sure Jones felt compelled to defend his buddy there, but I’m pretty sure Ulrich’s skin is thick enough as is. Not to mention the simple fact that no one likes a white knight, Adam. Come on.
