Public Funeral Procession for Ozzy Osbourne to Make Its Way Through Birmingham Tomorrow
Eight days after his passing, the body of heavy metal icon and Black Sabbath vocalist Ozzy Osbourne will head to its final resting place. Tomorrow afternoon, a procession including Osbourne’s close friends and family, as well as the hearse carrying Ozzy, will make its way through the musician’s hometown of Birmingham, U.K., giving fans a chance to say their final goodbyes along the route.
Starting at 1 p.m., the hearse will head down Broad Street before making its way through the city. Along the way, the procession will pass the Black Sabbath Bridge and bench, where fans from all over the world have placed memorials to the fallen rock star.
Along the way, the cortège will be accompanied by Bostln’ Brass, a local live brass band that will give one last musical moment for the Ozzman. This procession will visit these incredibly important landmarks in Birmingham just days after Osbourne and his fellow Black Sabbath members were awarded the Freedom of the City. It turns out that the Osbournes will cover all expenses associated with the proceedings.
Birmingham’s Lord Mayor Zafar Iqbal said tomorrow’s proceedings will be an important one for the city, as it says good bye to one of its own.
“Ozzy was more than a music legend — he was a son of Birmingham. Having recently been awarded the Freedom Of The City and following his celebrated appearance at the ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert at Villa Park earlier this month, it was important to the city that we support a fitting, dignified tribute ahead of a private family funeral. We know how much this moment will mean to his fans. We’re proud to host it here with his loving family in the place where it all began, and we are grateful that they have generously offered to pay to enable this to happen and support the city is giving him the farewell he deserves.”
For those of us unable to make it there in person, the livestream of the Black Sabbath bench will be operating at the time.
