Brent Hinds Continues to Blast His Ex-Mastodon Bandmates: “F*ck These Guys”

The one-sided war of words between ex-Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds and his former bandmates apparently continued in an online comment section, as the ousted guitarist continued his verbal attack on his former partners.

The latest tirade came about when a 2012 live video of Mastodon performing “Crack The Skye” was posted on Instagram. Hinds’ guitar solo was the focus of the video. Seemingly without being prompted by any other comments, Hinds went in on his former band and their ability to play.

“My Guitar sounds great, but Troy and prawn [an apparent nickname for Brann] sound absolutely horrible ..they are way out of key ..embarrassing and they kicked me out of the band for embarrassing them for being who I am ..but what about who they are ? They are two people that can’t sing..together live or anywhere else in the world ..everything they try to sing in the studio is manipulated by autotune because they’re incapable of singing in key..fuck these guys ..only I know who they really are ..they are the biggest fans of them self’s .. I’ve never seen anyone in my life look in the mirror more than Troy Sanders. He thinks he’s God’s gift to anything. I’ve never met three people that were so full of themselves. It’s disgusting.”

Hinds’ removal from Mastodon was one of the most shocking lineup changes of 2025, as it seemingly came out of nowhere. Remember, he had been with the progressive sludge metal outfit for 25 years up until that point.

Though Mastodon’s statement tried to keep the separation civil, details began coming out that made it abundantly clear that things weren’t amicable between the two parties. Hinds didn’t take long to fire shots at his former bandmates, while guitarist Bill Kelliher suggested the lineup change was “a hard decision we all had to make.” Since then, Hinds has gone on to say Mastodon was a “shit band with horrible humans.”

Since letting Hinds go, the band has continued on without him. They’ve since hired guitarist Nick Johnston to full the void and work on their first studio effort without Hinds in tow.
