Dark Angel’s First New Album in Three Decades ‘Extinction Level Event’ is Coming Next Month
It’s taken 34 years, but it’s finally happening — thrash metal band Dark Angel are releasing Extinction Level Event next month. It will be their first new album since 1991’s Time Does Not Heal.
This new album is a pivotal moment in time for the band not only because of the time gap between releases, but also because it’s the first to feature a posthumous songwriting for their late guitarist Jim Durkin, who passed away back in March 2023 at the age of 58. Drummer Gene Hoglan’s wife Laura Christine is now handling guitar for the band following Durkin’s passing.
According to the band, the album will first be released digitally on September 5 via Reversed Records. Fans of physical media will have to shell out almost $100 for limited collectors edition sets that will include signed copies, a limited edition red vinyl, a copy on CD, and a special shirt, though this version will only be available until September 15. That particular package can be preordered right now.
In addition to details about their new album, Dark Angel revealed their plans for an extensive North American tour, which will once again be the first of its kind in over three decades. This tour will start on September 5 in San Diego, California and comes to a close on October 16 in Los Angeles. Along the way, they’ll hit most major cities, including Houston, New York, Baltimore, Toronto, Chicago, and many more.
Coming along for the ride will be supporting acts Sacred Reich, Hirax, Vio-Lence, Midnight, Void, and Interceptor, though when each band will be on the bill depends on the date, so be sure to check the list of dates below to see when and where your favorite supporting acts will be performing alongside Dark Angel.
