Serj Tankian Unveils ‘Covers, Collaborations & Collages’ with “Electric Dreams”
There may not be any new System of a Down music happening any time soon, but that’s never kept the individual members of that iconic band from doing their own thing. Look at vocalist Serj Tankian for example — that dude’s got a whole ass solo career and earlier today, he announced a new collection of musical projects titled Covers, Collaborations & Collages. And given what it’s being described as, that’s a pretty apt name for the thing.
This genre-spanning collection of tunes is being described by Tankian as a “deeply personal and eclectic body of work,” with covers of Chris de Burgh and Ruben Hakhverdyan sharing the same space as interesting collabs with artists like Deadmau5 and Bic Runga.
Tankian said new tracks from the collection will be released every week leading up to its eventual release on October 24, with each new drop coming with an explanation about its importance or the inspiration that went into the recording. Though “new” may not be the right word, since he claims he’s had some of these works lying in wait for decades.
“Similar to Foundations, these are pre-existing archival recordings, some of them from way back. I wanted to put out a record of collaborations I haven’t released before, along with covers, which I haven’t done. The rest, the collages, are parts that fit the puzzle in the same tone, the same vibe.”
Earlier today, Tankian released the first single from Covers, Collaborations & Collages titled “Electric Dreams”. You can check that track out below.
