Perry Farrell Claims Dave Navarro Has “Unclean Hands” in Lawsuit Response

Two months after getting slapped with a $10 million lawsuit for an on-stage altercation, Jane’s Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell has filed a response in court that tries to paint Dave Navarro and his former bandmates as catalysts in the very public blowup last year.

According to a report by People, shot back at the allegations leveled against him in the lawsuit with 35 affirmative defenses. In the filing made in Los Angeles on September 8, Farrell said he had acted “in good faith and without malice” before claiming that Navarro wasn’t guiltless in the whole thing, stating that he had “unclean hands” and “failed to exercise reasonable care and diligence to mitigate [the] alleged claims and damages.”

farrell is looking for the case to be dismissed and for Navarro to pay for his attorneys fees and legal costs. He’s also calling for Farrell to get nothing out of these lawsuits.

Navarro’s attorney Christopher Frost responded to Ferrell’s demands, stating that the video surrounding the incident means the lawsuit “speaks for itself.”

“So does the video. By responding in this way, Mr. Farrell is not taking any formal legal step to stop the litigation. This is consistent with the fact that they have taken no affirmative steps to advance their claims, whether serving discovery or otherwise, and it is consistent with the strength of the claims by Dave, Eric [Avery], and Stephen [Perkins].”

According to a report by TMZ, Navarro is suing Farrell for assault and battery as a result of what went down during a Jane’s Addiction show at Boston’s Leader Bank Pavilion on September 13th, 2024. In addition to that lawsuit, Navarro and the other members of the band Eric Avery and Stephen Perkins are suing Farrell for emotional distress, negligence, and breach of contract due to the fact that the band had to cancel its dour following the fight. In that latter suit, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins are looking to get $10 million to cover damages.

This all happened while the band was trying to play with the original lineup for the first time in 14 years. Yet one September night, Farrell got belligerent with Navarro, getting in his face and cursing at him. Eventually things got physical, with Farrell pushing and attempting to punch Navarro before he was subdued by the rest of the band and crew.
