Dream Theater Announce ‘Quarantième: Live À Paris 40th Anniversary Concert’

Dream Theater are officially old enough to have a midlife crisis. Instead, they’re throwing one hell of a birthday party. The Grammy-winning prog-metal overlords will mark their 40th anniversary with a new live release, Quarantième: Live À Paris, out November 28 via Inside Out Music/Sony Music.

The set documents the band’s November 23, 2024 gig at the Adidas Arena in Paris, part of their sold-out European anniversary run. It also features the long-awaited reunion of the band’s “classic lineup”: James LaBrie, John Petrucci, John Myung, Jordan Rudess, and—yes—Mike Portnoy. The setlist was a prog-nerd fever dream, with cuts like “Metropolis Pt. 1,” “Panic Attack,” “Octavarium,” and of course, “Pull Me Under.”

To sweeten the announcement, Dream Theater dropped a live version of “Overture 1928 / Strange Déjà Vu,” which is streaming everywhere alongside a slick, pro-shot performance video.

Petrucci said of the release:

“From the moment we announced our 40th-anniversary tour, we knew it would be a very special event for both the band and our fans and must be captured. With this release, our performance in Paris is presented so beautifully in both stunning audio and video and really encapsulates this momentous occasion for all to enjoy.”

Portnoy—still basking in the afterglow of rejoining the band in 2023 after a decade-plus absence—added:

“We always knew this tour would be unforgettable because not only were we celebrating four decades since forming the band, but also the reunion of the band’s classic lineup.

“The excitement and emotions between us and our fans at each and every show were palpable and totally off the charts! The night captured here in Paris was an epic evening that we can now share with the whole world to celebrate this incredible tour.”

As usual, Dream Theater aren’t half-assing the physical editions. Fans can grab Quarantième: Live À Paris in the following formats, all featuring artwork from longtime collaborator Hugh Syme:
