Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin Drop “Waves Became The Sky” Ahead of ‘Stygian Bough’ Collab Release

0

For the second time, avant-garde doom bands Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin are working together to release Stygian Bough Vol. II. It’s been promised as a continuation of their 2020 effort Stygian Bough Vol. I, with the final product coming early next year. In a bid to keep folks interested, they dropped the album’s first single “Waves Became The Sky.”

Speaking about the track, Dylan Desmond said it was an excellent way to introduce the new collab to old and new fans in equal measure.

“We’re thrilled to unveil ‘Waves Became the Sky’ today. It is a well rounded introduction to Stygian Bough Volume II, with lyrical references to several albums in our catalog. Most predominately it recalls ‘Rows (of Endless Waves)’ from Bell Witch’s debut Longing which is, fittingly, where Bell Witch and Aerial Ruin first collaborated.”

Similarly, Aerial Ruin’s Erik Moggridge said the new track “expands on the themes of ‘Rows (of Endless Waves’” that considers the “battle of scientific thinking compared to superstitious thinking.”

Recorded with Billy Anderson, the album features an album cover depicting a painting by Denis Forkas, who’d also contributed works to past Behemoth and Wolves in the Throne Room album covers. Desmond said it was that art that really tied everything together.

Stygian Bough Vol. II will be released on November 14 via Profound Lore. If you’d like to get a copy, you can preorder yours today. perform Stygian Bough Vol. II in full on an European tour set to take place early next year. Supporting the and will be 40 Watt Sun.
