Puscifer Announce New Album ‘Normal Isn’t’, Lead Single “Self Evident” Streaming Now
It’s been five years since we last got a new Puscifer record, but this morning we now have confirmation that the wait for new tunes from Maynard James Keenan, Carina Round, and Mat Mitchell is nearly at an end. And that’s because the band announced they’ll be releasing a new album titled Normal Isn’t and taking that shit out on tour shortly after release.
Set to hit the shelves on February 6 via Puscifer Entertainment/Alchemy Recordings/BMG, Normal Isn’t is an 11-track offering that once again straddles the line between rock album and performance art piece. It wears the band’s post-punk influences proudly and pushes “into darker, more guitar-driven territory.”
With an eye on the album’s content as a whole ahead of its impending release, Keenan said Normal Isn’t reflects… well… everything going on right now.
“Normal Isn’t reflects this time we are living in. As storytellers and artists, our job is to observe, interpret, and report. We take in our environment and share what we see, and what we see around us does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.”
The album’s first single, “Self Evident,” is a groove-laden track that really traffics in layered vocal harmonies and a playful back-and-forth style between Round and Keenan. The accompanying live music video was filmed during a special August performance at Exchange L.A., where the group previewed the album in full for an intimate crowd of fans.
With the album now hurdling toward release, Round said the process in putting it all together was creatively exciting.
“Instead of just saying, ‘I want this to sound like Fleetwood Mac on cocaine if they had a baby with PJ Harvey,’ Maynard was showing us his intention, which was really cool. In Puscifer, any idea can totally change without any preciousness, and everybody is on board – not unlike an insane asylum. We found each other because we’re demented in a symbiotic way.”
In addition to the album’s release, the band announced an accompanying North American tour to kick off in March. You can find the full list of dates below. Tickets will go on sale to the general public this Friday, October 24 at 10 a.m. local time, though an artist pre-sale will start tomorrow at 10 a.m. local time using the code ‘PSC26’.
