Clutch’s Model Car Kit Lets You Take the “Spacegrass” Trip Without Leaving Your Desk (or Planet)
Sometimes a piece of band merch comes out that’s just… *chef’s kiss* spectacular. Such is the case with the latest drop from Clutch, our favorite spacefaring Earth rockers from Maryland. Starting today, they’re offering a limited edition 1973 Dodge Dart Swinger model kit that’s based on their 1995 stoner rock anthem “Spacegrass”.
For the uninitiated, this is an official MPC brand model kit. That means all 146 parts come attached to plastic sprues that have to be individually snipped out and assembled. You can build it in five different variations: Stock, Custom, Weekend Warrior, Drag, and Spacegrass. You’re gonna need glue and you’re gonna need paint, because this thing comes in base white. Paint it how you want, use the Clutch-branded water slide decals however you want. It even comes with a mini Jesus to put on the dashboard. It’s all about doing it however and “whenever it feels right,” really.
As someone that’s more familiar with building Japanese space mechs than cars, this sort of thing really speaks to me because I’m a massive fucking nerd. Something tells me a lot of Clutch’s fan base is comprised of fellow nerds, too. Hell, you might be one of them.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I’d pay to watch Neil Fallon build and paint one of these things. Maybe while sharing stories from the road and pithy words of wisdom that only a man of his mental fortitude and world-weariness could provide. Unfortunately, I think we’re going to have to settle for the unboxing he did on their Facebook page.
Right now, they’re offering the model for $69, a foil print of the model for $49.99, and a deluxe bundle that includes both for $109.99. Totally worth it for a weekend of creativity and getting your hands a little dirty. Just make sure to glue and paint it in a well ventilated area, as Neil Fallon apparently learned the hard way…
