Look, I know we’re only 16 days into 2026, but given everything that’s going on here in the States, I have to remind our American readers that no one’s coming to save us. That’s why if you’re mad, sad, angry, upset, or whatever emotion over the speedy backslide into fascism, you gotta act. Protest. Call your politicians. But most importantly, reach out and help your neighbors. Maybe arm yourself and train with that weapon. And you can do all of that while listening to some of the new tunes that came out this week.

Do you like true crime documentaries? Have you memorized each detailed killing that your favorite serial killer committed? If that sounds like something you’d do, Slay Utterly might just be for you. Technical melodeath through and through, this record’s tracks focuses on a different serial killer, with tracks that look at the subject matter from the perspective of the one holding the weapon and the one not.
Edenbridge
Set The Dark On Fire (Steamhammer/SPV)
This one’s for our epic symphonic power metal heads out there. This is Edenbridge’s first new album in four years and their first with guitarist Sven Sevens, but it still maintains the band’s penchant for the grandiose.
Kreator
Krushers Of The World (Nuclear Blast)
Hooo boy. Boy oh boy oh boy, does this album fucking cook. Thrash metal at its best, this German outfit continually pounds out banger after banger. And though it’s been four years since their last release, it’s obvious that Kreator are still adept at meshing their old school thrash sensibilities with a more modern flair, which is a potent concoction that spells danger for your neck.
Ov Sulfur
Endless (Century Media)
Heavy, dark, complex… All words that can easily describe this latest effort from Las Vegas’ Ov Sulfur. This album really does live up to the hype, given how truly oppressive their attack on this record sounds.
Soen
Reliance (Silver Lining Music)
If you’re looking for something to bring your mood down but do it in a way that’s sonically engaging, Reliance might be for you. This prog metal outfit from Sweden returns with their seventh album to bring you big choruses, some infectious grooves at times, but ultimately want to bring on the sad vibes now and then.
