Warped Tour Might Return Under a Different Name

0

The Warped Tour as we know it ceased to exist upon the completion of its summer 2018 incarnation, ending a remarkable run of nearly 25 years. Founder Kevin Lyman cited “an evolving summer festival industry, a shrinking pool of bands, and declining ticket sales amongst its teenage demographic” in addition to plain old burn out as reasons he decided to end it. The Warped brand returned in 2019, but in name only, a series of one-off festival shows in three cities throughout the summer.

Could Lyman be staging a return for Warped in 2020? No, obviously. You know why.

But what about 2021? A fan recently posed Lyman that question on Twitter, and his response indicated he’s got something in the works in a similar vein that’ll carry a different name.

Here’s how the brief exchange went down:

There’s obviously not much to go on here, but at least it offers a little something for “us emo kids to live for” in the future. For Lyman, I imagine it’s one of those things where he’s burnt out on the burn out and is now itching to get back into the game.

Concerts are still a long way from returning en masse, of course. Shows are technically now allowed in Missouri, and one will be held in Arkansas this week, but health experts warn that it’ll likely be until at least fall 2021 when live events as we knew them will be back in full swing. Until then, at least there could be drive-ins.
