Geezer Butler is Nervous as Hell About Black Sabbath’s Last Show: “I’m Already Having Palpitations”
To say there’s probably a ton of pressure on the dudes in Black Sabbath with their final show coming up in July is probably a massive understatement. Very few bands have gotten the opportunity to end everything where it all started and even fewer have ever reached the pinnacle of importance in their genre as Black Sabbath has over the decades.
During a recent interview with The Guardian, bassist Geezer Butler shared his excitement — and anxiety — for the band’s finale. It’s gotten so much, that even though the original lineup of Butler, Bill Ward, Tony Iommi, and Ozzy Osbourne will be there by his side, the bassist shared that he’s incredibly nervous.
“I’m already having palpitations. In fact, I had a nightmare last night. I dreamed everything went wrong on stage, and we all turned to dust. It’s important that we leave a great impression, since it’s the final time that people will experience us live. So it has to be great on the night.”
For anyone that’s been living under a rock, the ‘Back to the Beginning’ show will serve as both Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s final show. A veritable who’s who from the rock and metal world will descend upon Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5 for one final night of the “Prince of Darkness” and the band that practically started it all.
The show will not only feature performances by Osbourne and Sabbath, but also Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Slayer, Pantera, Tool, Gojira, and a whole host of other big names slated for the big day. Not to mention individual artists like Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, Faith No More’s Mike Bordin, Sammy Hagar, and Ghost’s Papa V Perpetua. It’s going to be a lot.
