The Next Deftones Album is Supposedly Coming This August
There’s been some rumblings lately about the next Deftones album as of late. The band’s been coyly talking about the work they’ve been putting into the new release and they’ve been even more overtly hinting at something called “Private Music” that’s coming next week… so we know something’s afoot. But now a recent interview with *checks notes* member of House of Pain and successful late 90s rapper Everlast suggests the new music is coming at the end of this summer.
The details were spilled during a recent appearance on B-Real’s The Dr. Greenthumb Show (as transcribed by ThePRP) with Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter. In the episode, Everlast just straight up said the new album was coming this August.
“Since we’re going to be on this kind of, you know, throwing flowers around attitude, this man [points to Carpenter] has a record coming out much sooner, in August, that I just heard a few songs from. [It] sounds like Deftones all got in time machines and got back out and hit the studio last week and are feeling young and beautiful.
“That record is amazing, man, all three [songs] that I heard… It’s gonna be a good musical summer for people who like what we do. Or summer for them; for you and me, probably end of the year.”
Though there hasn’t been any direct confirmation from the band, Son Doobie of Funkdoobiest said in the same interview that they’d heard the music too.
“The music you played Steph, Strong One [one of Carpenter’s nicknames] is always treating us to what he’s got going. And, man, those songs are amazing.
“And, like I said, man, Chino sounds amazing… Just on it man, and sharp man. And yeah, man, your guys show is ridiculous, bro. It’s sickening… And then just to say again, you know, man, it’s just I can’t wait for you guys hear it, it’s so dope.”
So yeah, that’s not necessarily any indication that what they said was 100% accurate, since we’d like to hear that directly from the band first, but that’s something to keep in mind as the summer moves forward.
In the meantime, you can catch Deftones at any of the shows (all scheduled to start late August, by the way) listed below.
